OHCHR in Iraq

The Human Rights Office works to advance "Human Rights Every Day for All Iraqis".

Under the human rights mandate of UN Security Council resolution (UNSCR) 2522 of 29 May 2020 the UNAMI Human Rights Office works with the Government of Iraq, the government of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, local governments, national human rights institutions, and civil society to promote human rights throughout Iraq in an impartial manner. The Chief of Human Rights Office also represents the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Iraq and works closely with other UN agencies, funds and programmes to ensure that the fundamental rights of everyone in Iraq are at the core of their work.  In 2019, two additional thematic mandates of Conflict-related Sexual Violence and Child Protection were integrated into the work of the Office.
