Rule of Law - Transitional Justice

Transitional justice consists of both judicial and non-judicial mechanisms, including prosecution initiatives, reparations, truth-seeking, institutional reform, or a combination thereof).  Whatever combination is chosen must be in conformity with international legal standards and obligations.

As the lead entity within the United Nations system in the area of transitional justice, OHCHR has been assisting with developing standards and operational rule of law tools as well with the design and implementation of transitional justice mechanisms.  OHCHR has been also responding to the requests of the Human Rights Council in the area of transitional justice.
