COMMITTEE ON THE ELIMINATION OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN
Half-day general discussion on "gender-related dimensions of disaster risk reduction and climate change"
On the occasion of its 63rd session, to be held in Geneva from 15 February to 4 March 2016, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women will hold a half-day of general discussion on gender-related dimensions of disaster risk reduction and climate change in the context of the provisions of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The half-day of general discussion has been organized by OHCHR with support from UNISDR (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, Geneva office.
The purpose of the half-day of general discussion is to prepare the elaboration by the Committee of a "General Recommendation on gender-related dimensions of disaster risk reduction and climate change". The aim of the general recommendation will be to provide guidance to States parties to the Convention on the measures they should adopt to ensure full compliance with their obligations to respect, protect and fulfil women’s human rights in the context of disaster and climate change.
Date and Venue
The general discussion will take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Conference Room XVI, on Monday, 29 February 2016 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
