The Committee against Torture is composed of 10 independent experts who are persons of high moral character and recognized competence in the field of human rights.

Members are elected for a term of four years by States parties in accordance with article 17 of the Convention against Torture. Members serve in their personal capacity and may be re-elected if renominated.

A meeting of States parties took place in Geneva on 11 October 2021 to elect members to replace the five current members whose terms expires on 31 December 2021.
